At McKenzie Orthodontics, we are pleased to offer various types of orthodontic braces for you to choose from. Since all braces are designed to straightening your teeth, you now have many different options to choose from, all at different prices to suit any budget.
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of orthodontic braces available. These braces are made of high-grade stainless steel, and they straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. Additionally, with metal braces, you now have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile!
Self-ligating braces are made from the same materials as traditional orthodontic braces. However, they do not require the use of elastics. With self-ligating braces, the archwire is secured into the bracket slot directly, which means fewer appointments as well as less friction placed on the tooth structure.
Self-ligating orthodontic braces are the same size as metal braces but use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help the archwire guide teeth into place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure on the tooth and requires fewer adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.
Ceramic braces are made of clear, materials and are almost invisible on your teeth compared to metal braces. For this reason, ceramic orthodontic braces are used mainly for older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns.
Even though ceramic braces are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
Clear aligners like Invisalign, are a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable acrylic trays. While they straighten your teeth like braces, they do so gradually over time. The best thing is that not only are the aligners invisible; they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while undergoing treatment; Plus, brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and contain no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.
